PETITE MARTINIQUE MURALS

Moody Blues and Indigo barely got underway when we ended up it a quite a squall. The praying for rain worked!

Tourists are very welcome on Petite Martinique. On most islands if it’s after noon, you will be greeted with, “Good afternoon.” Here we were greeted with, “Good evening”, even though it was afternoon . . .

Right or left? Wimpy dudes in PM!

Union Island is in the background. It is a different country than Petite Martinique (Grenada). Union Island is part of St. Vincent & the Grenadines.

No building codes here in Petite Martinique.

Nice point and lovely cooling breeze.

Local boatbuilder working hard. See the pile of plywood, that’s what the boats are made out of.

Cute house. This kid cracked us up.

Gene and Greg walking the main road. Note how narrow it is and even with a speed bump. I guess that’s so the sheep don’t get run over.

Houses are either made of wood or cinder block.

Hopefully not asbestos . . .

Sweet. Note the basement is enclosed. Some aren’t.

Basement not enclosed. Love the shutter.

Colors. Lots of colors all over and all mixed up.

In 2004 Hurricane Ivan hit. Obviously it hit hard.

Many cemeteries rest on prime waterfront property. That’s Moody Blues to the left, Indigo to the right.

PETITE MARTINIQUE is the “last outpost” (to the north) of Grenada, therefore being one of the Grenadian Grenadines. It is tiny, about 1 square mile in area with over 900 people of European and African descent.

This is a long shot of the town and main anchoring area.

As you can see it’s very dry. Rainfall has been low so everyone is praying for rain. The government has been barging water to Petite Martinique.

Boatbuilding and fishing are what the people do. In the old days smuggling was profitable . . .

This is our buddy-boating friends Greg and Kathy, s/v Indigo. Union Island is in the background.

Hummmm, “Key of Life!” Who would have thunk it?
